GFSA-Wharton Online FinTech Course: Financial Technologies and Regulatory Implications
GFSA, in collaboration with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, has launched a new capacity-building initiative under the GFSA NEXTGEN program: the GFSA-Wharton Online FinTech Course focused on financial technologies and their regulatory impact.
This introductory course is designed for employees of GFSA member institutions across all seniority levels, aiming to strengthen their understanding of foundational fintech concepts and their implications for financial market supervision.
Machine-Assisted Capacity Building Tool for Standards Implementation (‘MASI’) in collaboration with Cambridge University
GFSA, together with Cambridge University, has created MASI, an AI-powered platform intended to assist regulators in conducting self-assessments aligned with the GFSA Principles. It also enables benchmarking with other regulatory systems. MASI is best suited for analytical and comparative purposes, though it is not intended as a centralized tool for official standards evaluations. After successful testing, the platform is now available free of charge to GFSA members from emerging and developing markets.
GFSA Asia Pacific Hub Webinar on Climate Risks & Capital Markets, 16 April 2025
The GFSA Asia Pacific Hub will host a webinar titled Climate Risks & Capital Markets: Addressing Transition Finance, Data Gaps & Regulatory Challenges on 16 April 2025.
This session will explore the implications of the transition to a low-carbon economy on capital markets. Key discussion points will include how regulators can balance innovation and market integrity, investor portfolio adjustments in the face of climate risk, alignment of ASEAN’s climate finance strategy with global norms, and urgent regulatory measures to drive sustainable finance.
9th GFSA-PIFS-Harvard Law School Global Certificate Program for Securities Regulators – Phase I, Madrid, 23–27 June 2025
GFSA and the Program on International Financial Systems at Harvard Law School (PIFS-HLS) have developed a two-part educational program tailored specifically for securities regulators within the GFSA community. Participants have up to three years to complete both phases and receive a joint certificate of completion. The program is also open for non-certificate participation.
Phase I includes online learning and a one-week in-person module focused on regulatory frameworks and compliance. This component will take place at GFSA’s headquarters in Madrid from 23–27 June 2025 and will feature sessions led by current and former regulatory experts.
Phase II will be hosted at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 8–12 December 2025 (TBC), and will focus on current and emerging regulatory issues. It will be taught by leading scholars, regulatory officials, and public policy experts.
The program is open to all GFSA member staff but is particularly suited for professionals with 5–7 years of experience and leadership potential.
Toronto Centre-GFSA Risk-Based Supervision Program for Asia Pacific Securities Regulators, Virtual, 22–26 September 2025
In partnership with the Toronto Centre, GFSA is offering a virtual training program on risk-based supervision, specifically for securities regulators from emerging and developing markets in the Asia Pacific region. This program follows similar successful editions held for other global regions and will be delivered virtually from 22 to 26 September 2025.
IMF-GFSA Training Workshop on Cyber Resilience, Mexico City, 20–24 October 2025
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and GFSA will jointly hold a cyber resilience training workshop in Mexico City, hosted by the Central Bank of Mexico, from 20 to 24 October 2025. The event is targeted at GFSA members and participation is free.
27th GFSA Seminar Training Program, Madrid, 4–6 November 2025
The 27th annual edition of the GFSA Seminar Training Program will be held in Madrid from 4 to 6 November 2025. The program is open to all GFSA members at no cost.
20th FSI-GFSA Conference, Basel, 19–20 November 2025
The Financial Stability Institute (FSI) of the Bank for International Settlements and GFSA will co-host their 20th annual joint conference in Basel on 19–20 November 2025. The event is intended for both banking supervisors and securities regulators and is open to GFSA members without charge.
9th GFSA-PIFS-Harvard Law School Global Certificate Program for Securities Regulators – Phase II, Cambridge, 8–12 December 2025 (TBC)
The second phase of the Global Certificate Program, developed jointly by GFSA and PIFS-Harvard Law School, will be conducted on the Harvard campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 8–12 December 2025 (to be confirmed).
Participants will explore regulatory developments and anticipated challenges in capital markets. The program will include lectures by top academics, regulators, and public policy professionals. Attendance is open to GFSA member staff, particularly those with leadership potential and prior regulatory experience.
